The Brain on COVID-19

In March 2020 -still the early days of U.K.'s COVID-19 crisis-Rhys Thomas, a neurologist at Newcastle University, got call home from concerned colleague. The colleague's cousin was hospitalized, critically ill with COVID-19, and had developed brainstem encephalitis, severe inflammatory condition brain causing suite symptoms, eye problems to balance drowsiness. He wanted know if Thomas knew anything about these conditions. At time, research coming out Wuhan, China, only suggested mild whiff neurological symptoms-headache, dizziness, loss taste smell. Clearly virus could affect in some ways, but it wasn't, thought then, serious. But this report sounded much more concerning. Symptoms like patient's would mean accessing nervous system than scientists originally thought.
